Sachin carries us, we wanted to return the favour'

Mumbai:  He may be the youngest member of the team, but Virat Kohli's statement after the match showed poise and flair.

"Sachin Tendulkar has carried Indian cricket on his shoulders for 21 years. So it was fitting that we carried him on our shoulders after this win," Virat, who carried Tendulkar on his shoulder for an emotional lap of honour, said after India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets.

The former U-19 captain who led the side to Youth World Cup victory in Kuala Lumpur three years back said, "It's the most wonderful feeling I have ever experienced."

Harbhajan Singh who was very emotional said, "This means the World to me. This is for the people of our nation."

For Player of the Tournament Yuvraj Singh, this was one "unbelievable journey. This is for the people of our country and Sachin Tendulkar."

Zaheer Khan who has been the highest wicket-taker was all praise for Yuvraj as he was draped in national tri-colour.

"When he (Yuvraj) was going through a tough phase, I told him that he would win the World Cup for us," an ecstatic Zaheer said.

"It was one year back in Dambulla, we started thinking that we can win the World Cup. During a match in Dambulla, when we were in the dressing room, we thought that one year from now, we should be playing the final of the World Cup on April 2 at the Wankhede Stadium. It has been brilliant performance by the boys in all three departments," said Virender Sehwag.
